Blasting off to adventure

Hey, we wanted to have the film open big & majestic - That's why we used stock footage of an Apollo launching. Nothing wrong with that, is there.

Yes, that is how it starts. followed by the worst homemade credits you ever seen.

Nothing like coming up with a production name by working all involved into it.

The way we figured it was that if you wanted to make this goofy film goofier, just be real cheap & show it that way. It really does look cheap, but man, we laugh our asses off when we see it.

Real Neat Guys - That always got a laugh.

After this fine introduction of credits, Terry used his vocal talents & recorded a great narration to introduce the film. Unfortunately at this time that original recording is lost. So what is on the film now is yours truly doing the narration. Believe me, it's no where at all as good as Terry's was.

As the narration went on we filmed little vignettes of the films mentioned. Each one thought up & set up right on the spot. Again, they were very cheap looking - But extremely funny.

The narration went something like...

'In the History of classic science fiction movies & television shows, there have been such great's as...

Space 1999'

My old Moonbase Alpha model & Eagle ship

'Land Of The Giants'

My Spindrift model - Terry's foot

'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind'

Terry under there holding a plaster alien head I made in High School

'Star Wars'

A Die Cast Tie Fighter, two X-Wing models, & a Basketball

We then took a walk to the nearby prairie (the same one we shot 'Our Invaded Earth' at) & filmed our best little parody.

'2001: A Space Odyssey'

Terry eating ape boogersMy dogs favorite bone - Now a star in an epic film!Him, I wonder how that bone tastes?

Yes, Terry wore an ape mask I had, my moms old fur coat, & along with my dogs big raw hide bone we again made film history!

Terry did his best 2001 ape impersonation!

The joke at the end needed to be explained to my mom for some reason. Clearly we see the Pan Am ship flying through space & then see the dog bone floating by it. But for some reason my mom thought the two of them were dancing. I don't know?

Mom....I told you they're not dancing together.

How we shot that (and the shot of the wand floating through space through the Milky Way) was by hanging up a dark cloth & attaching the wand, bone, ship, etc. to pieces of thread & moved them along with broom handles. Amazing what you can think of at a moments notice.

Just two more shots for the film & we were through. The one of the wand floating through the Milky Way & the wand moving towards the Earth. The Earth was a globe - The Milky Way was just that, Milky Way candy bars, & boy did we munch them down after the shoot.

Mmmmmm - Milky Way!

Once we finished filming we didn't put the camera away, no... We had some film left over & decided to just goof off in front of the camera. Nothing like hamming it up like the hams we were. In fact we also did this the day before while Terry was in his underwear. He would go to the street & flash the passing cars. The finished film is pretty funny, but the outtakes...boy. below are just a few shots from them.

Me as a bumpking walking onto the film setAs Terry munched his Milky Way - Bill & I tried to use any props I had in the Basement

What's that thing on Terry's nose?Waky fun from wacky guys

Music & Sound

Sure our film had to have music & sound in it. Only this time I played it smart. No more of that trying to sync everything up right. Since this was a comedy filmed in that quick silent movie style I just decided to use music as a main background. The opening started with Tomita's version of Holst's 'The Planets' - Mars. Each vignette had music & sounds from those original films (Star Wars, Close Encounters, 2001, etc.). Then most of the main film with Willie & the wand was taken from Mel Brooks' film 'Silent Move' (how appropriate). It all worked fine.

Yeah we really had a great time making this film, we even had a sequel planned. Unfortunately we never got around to making it. It's premise was going to be Willie & Big Bad Bob trying to get into the baby's house & get the Magical Wand back from him. Ah well, maybe in another life time.

But right now, we look back at this little film & it just brings us all back there to that time when we had all the time in the world to just goof around & make a movie.
