The Legend Of Plainfield Farm

The road was long and the headlights seemed to glow as they stretched ahead of the vehicle like long circular tubes to infinity. Clouds of dust flew from behind making the vision impossible to see through the rear view mirror. Not a tree in sight except for small groups of them which surrounded local farm houses which were miles from each other.

There were six of us in the car. John, Jackie, and Joe were crammed in the backseat finishing up a few cans of beer while Danny, Judy, and myself Paul were in the front. John popped a can open and gave it to me as he raised his own to his mouth, drinking it as it drained from the corner of his mouth. On the radio the song 'Stayin Alive' from Saturday Night Fever came on. John immediately spit up his beer and it sprayed onto the back of my neck.

"Damn! Shut that shit off!" he yelled.

"No don't!" answered Jackie who opened her own can of beer.

"What?" John shot back, "You actually like that junk?"

        "Yeah."

"Yeah, she only saw that movie eight times." Joked Joe.

"Well I like it. What can I say?"

"Well I know what I like and that's not it!" said Danny who reached over to the radio and turned the dial a bit. It responded with some Pink Floyd music."Now that's more like it."

The others agreed except for Jackie who slouched in her seat. She pouted and mumbled, "Damn it, I never get my way."

"What are you talking about babe," Joe said jokingly, "You get your way every night."

Dark clouds parted in the night sky exposing a crescent moon which illuminated the barren fields. Jackie's face seemed to glow as the moonlight reflected off her face.

"Where are we going?" she asked.

"Yeah, where are we going?" Judy added.

Danny mysteriously turned around, looked at Jackie with evil in his eyes and said, "We are going into the clutches of the devil and death."

"Oh Danny stop it," said Judy elbowing him in the side, "It's scary enough around here without you doing that."

"Speaking of scary, Joe added, "There's a haunted house around here."

        Oh great." Jackie mumbled.

"Let's go!" Danny said quickly overlapping Jackie's words.

"Come on guys, let's not." Judy pleaded. "I've got to be home around twelve and it's almost that now."

"Oh Judy come on, You scared?" John asked.

        "No."

"Then what can it hurt?" Danny said. He then turned to me. "How bought it Paul? Your the driver."

"Well I don't really see any danger in going." I answered. "Sure, alright."

Joe suddenly sat up. "Hey wait a minute, I just brought it up. We can't go there, it's haunted."

"Are you crazy?" John asked. "Shit, there are no ghosts. Even if there are, Danny will scare them off."

"That's right." Danny bragged. "I'm a regular ghost killer."

"Yeah, your looks could kill anyone." I added.

We drove a bit more down the deserted farmland roads. Just listening to Floyd and getting into the mood.

"Are you sure it's on this road?" I asked Joe.

"Yeah, it's out here alright." he answered. "But why do we have to go now? Couldn't we wait until tomorrow, and in the day?"

Danny turned to him and said, "What's the matter, you scarred?"

"No," Joe said defensively. "It's just that I don't like the stories I've been hearing about this place."

"What's the matter?" Danny teased. "Is widdle Joey boy scared that he wants his mommy?"

Joe reached and grabbed Danny's jacket. "I said shut your fucking mouth!"

With that Danny threw a punch at Joe and they started to fight.

"Easy! Easy you two!" I yelled trying to break them up.

John grabbed Joe by the shoulders and pulled him back. "Come on you Jagoffs, knock it off! This is no place to fight your battles. Just take it easy and keep quiet."

"I'm gonna kick your ass!" Joe threatened.

"Oh yeah, try it! You mother!"

"I said cut it out!" John broke in.

Danny held up his hand and gave Joe the finger.

        Joe answered back, "Your mother."

Jackie straightened up from her bent position of picking up Joe's fallen beer and handed it back to him. "Here, you dropped this and it spilled all over the floor, let alone me." she said as she brushed the wetness from her lap.

"Clean up the best you can back there Jackie," I said, "I think were almost there. It looks like this is the old place right here."

We all looked out the windows and there it was. I pulled the car over off the dirt road and onto the grass near a tree.

The house was very old, off white in color. Nobody has lived there in years. The front doorway had a small one step porch with an old trellis supported by two pillars. The screen door was hanging by one rusty hinge on the bottom and was almost ripped apart. It looked as if something was trying to get in, or out. A dog maybe. There were chips in the front door and two broken windows on the upper half of it. Deep gash marks and splinters were sticking straight out. On both sides of the porch were two windows, also broken. Drapes and shades were hanging half in and out as if blown by the wind, ripped and torn by the sharp pieces of remaining glass in the frame. This house wasn't a straight shape, it tilted towards an addition which was built to it's right side. The roof had holes in it allowing us to see portions of the wood supporters sticking out from each side. Most of the upstairs windows were also shattered, either by vandals, age, or something else. The addition on the side of the house had a side doorway leading inside. It had no door. To the right side of that was a brick stairway leading to the cellar doorway which led to the basement. This door was also broken off and was laying at the top of the stairs. It was almost split in two as if done with some force of some kind. Around to the back were open wells waiting to engulf an unexpected visitor. The trees which hung lifeless around the house looked mysterious. The wood seemed to be parched and burnt as if in a fire, but they continued to sprout leaves which would occasionally fall with a cracking sound to the already covered ground. Small sheds with walls that seemed to be broken or torn through surrounded this farmhouse giving it an even more erie feeling. An old fence that surrounded the property were completely demolished with parts of it scattered around the lawn. The stone pillars that once held it into place still remained. If driving past this place it would surly be noted as being haunted.

"This place is fuckin freaky man." Judy said.

"I told you." Joe answered back.

"Well, let's go." I said as I turned the engine off.

We all got out of the car, Joe a little hesitant at first but eventually followed. There was total darkness surrounding us. The barely visible shapes of the shacks were silhouetted against the dark bluish sky on the horizon and reached up to the darkness of the star clustered sky.

"Hey Paul? Joe asked breaking the silence.

        "What?"

"What are we going to do here?"

"What else can you do in an old farmhouse? Explore. I've got some flashlights in the trunk."

I headed over to the trunk, Judy followed.

"Let's not be out here too long Paul," Judy pleaded, "I've got to get home as soon as possible."

"Don't worry, were only gonna look around a bit. Won't take too long."

I opened the trunk and noticed that a few of my Playboy magazines had scattered out in the open. So did Judy. I looked up to her and gave a boyish smile as she grinned back. I quickly moved them under a blanket and grabbed for the flashlights. I gave one to Joe and Danny, and kept one for myself. We switched them on and started to the side doorway.

"Shit what a mess." Danny said as he put his arm around Judy. "Wait till the housekeeper gets back and finds this mess."

The dry leaves under our feet crunched with a crackling sound as the wind blew through the trees making a kind of hushing. I looked to Joe and it seemed that he wasn't enjoying himself. He was very hesitant about going here in the first place and with this atmosphere around us I now knew why. Thoughts crossed my mind that possibly the house was haunted, but these soon passed because I just didn't believe in it. As we entered the house there was a kind of fog that arose in the air that caused the flashlights to emit rod like beams.

The doorway we entered led to the kitchen. In the center of the room was the refrigerator turned over on it's side and extremely dirty. Old rags and newspapers were scattered across the floor along with the broken glass from the windows. There was a stove that had no doors. The inside of it looked like a greasy, dirty mess that hadn't been clean in years. The bubbled grease was like rock and coal black. A table was shattered with splinters of wood everywhere along with one corner of it which had one of it's legs still attached. More rags were seen on the floor as we walked in further. The floor creaked and we took caution with every step. Spider webs were all around, in corners, hanging from the ceiling, and along the corners of the floor. The smell in this place was an awful stench and gave the feeling that death had once roamed these premises.

We decided to separate. Jackie, Joe, and John went in one group while Dan, Judy, and I went in another. John and his group searched inside the house while my group went to the different sheds surrounding outside. While we were out there we decided to give Joe a little scare because we really didn't think much of his Haunted house story. We snuck back in and quietly waited in the corners until they passed. I peeked out and saw them coming with Joe leading the way. I waited, then once Joe passed I reached out and grabbed John covering his mouth. Danny did the same with Jackie and we quickly went outside. We told them to keep quiet and get in the car. We did, I started the car, and we quickly drove off.

John looked out the back window and watched as the house grew smaller, he then turned back to me.

"What the hell are you doing?! You left Joe back there!"

"That's right," Danny answered, "We're going to teach that little mother a lesson."

"So you left him alone out there?" Jackie yelled. "Are you crazy!?"

"Take it easy." I assured her. "We're only gonna let him sweat it out a while."

"Jackie slumped down in her seat. "I hope you guys know what your doing. Joe gets scared shitless."

Back at the house Joe hadn't even noticed that we had left.

"Let's try to go through this place fast guys," he said turning around. "Because this place gives me the....." There was no one there. He was alone.  He glanced around quickly, searching.

"Hey come on guys, quit foolin around." he called, his voice shaking.

Walking quickly now in and out each room, with the flashlight held tightly to his stomach he continued to call out. "Come on now! The jokes over!"

There was no answer. He really was alone. His heart beat faster and he started to shake. Joe was a tough guy, but talk to him about ghosts and he'll turn into a slimy, wiggly worm.

He continued to search the rest of the house. His footsteps increased they're range of volume for it being the only noise engulfed in silence. Silence which was shattered as he quickly moved along. He moved through the kitchen and started out the side door into the night air when he heard a noise from down in the cellar. A sigh of relief overcame him and he rushed down the stairs.

This place was worse than the house and smelt like wet mud and grime. There were more spider webs, and old tools that were rusted and looked as if they would turn to dust if picked up. But Joe paid no attention to the surrounding elements, he just wanted to find the others and was following the noise to where he thought they were. On the floor near the back of the room was a large trap door. It was made of stone with an iron ring attached as a handle. Scratching and muffled sounds came from under this entranceway. Joe rushed over to it, fell to his knees, and started to pull up on the ring.

"How did you guys ever get trapped in there?" he asked as he struggled with the door. "Don't worry, I'll get you out."

Sweat dripped from his forehead to his arms as he strained to open the heavy crypt like door. A loud squeaking and grinding sound came from it's hinges and it slowly gave way. Joe's face smiled brightly at this triumph he'd accomplished. Then he looked in, his eyes widened, and screamed as the darkness overcame him.

"Alright guys, this is long enough." Jackie complained from the back seat. "Let's go back and get him.

"Yeah I think that little pussy had enough of a scare." Danny said cocky.

"Yeah, he probably shit in his pants." John added laughing.

I turned the car around and headed back to the house. Jackie continued to complain.

"Your all a bunch of assholes. It wasn't right to leave him back there."

"Hey the little mother had it coming. Always trying to be a tough guy." Danny shot back.

"And you Danny," Jackie continued, "your the biggest asshole of them all. I really hope you get yours one day."

"I've been waiting for mine," Dan joked. "Only Judy here never gives it up."

        "Fuck you." Judy responded.

When we got back to the house all was quiet. We all got out of the car and headed for the side door. Jackie started to call out Joe's name. So did Judy. Danny still cracked his jokes and called 'come out asshole' instead.

"Danny if your not gonna help," Jackie shot, "shut the fuck up."

        "Excuse me!" Danny answered.

"Maybe he started down the road. Maybe he thought he'd catch up with us." I said.

        "You think so?" Judy asked.

"I don't know." I answered. "Let's check out the house first."

The girls and John search in the house while I kept Danny with me as we looked through the surrounding shacks. But there was no sign of Joe. Finished with the sheds we started down the cellar stairs.   It was almost pitch black and our flashlights didn't do too well of a job. But then I spotted something. A large darkness in the floor. A hole. Moving my light around it I noticed a stain  to the side as if something was spilled. When the light hit it, it glowed up red. I followed the stain along the floor to the corned in the back of the room. There was Joe.

"Oh fuck." I said in shock.

        "What?" Danny answered.

"God, it's Joe." I said rushing over to him.

Joe was laying face down in a large puddle of blood. Blood that continued to flow from his left side. I bent and turned him over. I then stepped back in shock bumping into Danny who moved to see what I was looking at.

        "Oh shit." Danny sighed.

The blood that flowed from Joe came from his left arm socket. The arm was gone. It laid across the room as if thrown there. His neck was mangled in a twisted mess of muscle bone and blood. His bottom jaw looked as if it were pulled out and hung at the side of his face. His nose was sliced by something and also hung at the side of his head by a long strand of flesh. His eyes were still open, and in the look of shock.

        Danny started to freak out.

"Oh shit. Oh God. What the fuck happened?"

"I don't know." I answered. "Something attacked him. An animal or something."

"God, Joe." Danny said choking up.

"Come on man, take it easy."

"Take it easy!" Dan cried. "What the fuck are we gonna do?!"

"Quiet. We can't tell the others."

        "What?"

"We got to keep this to ourselves."

"Your fuckin out of your mind." Danny shot back. "We've got to."

He started to the cellar stairs. I followed and blocked him.

"Come on man, we can't put Jackie through this." I said. "She's fuckin mad at us as it is. She'll blame all of this on us.

"This ain't right man. What are we gonna tell them?" Danny looked at Joe's body. "What are we gonna tell them when they see Joe?"

"They're not going to see Joe. Let's move his body back into that hole and say we never seen him."

        "We can't do this Paul."

"Look if we get blamed for this we can get in a lot of trouble." I said. "Fuck we're not even supposed to be out here. So come on. We can't tell them."

"God. Fuck, maybe your right," Danny said looking again at Joe, "This is all my fault. It wouldn't have happened if we didn't leave him. I can imagine how Jackie is going to feel."

I placed my hand on his shoulder. "Dan, she wont find out about this if we can hide it good enough. And don't blame yourself, we all had a part in this joke."

        "Huh, some joke."

"Come on," I said walking over towards Joe's body, "give me a hand."

Danny slowly turned around and started to walk to me. I grabbed a hold of Joe's legs and started to drag him to the open crypt. Danny stared as the lifeless body started to pulsate blood out of its ripped neck and arm socket. It left a clean, unbroken path of blood from the corner to the large hole in the floor. I looked to Danny and sighed, seeing that he was really freaked.

"Get his arm." I said, struggling with Joe's body trying not to get any blood on me.

Danny slowly walked to the puddle of blood that surrounded the dismembered limb. As I dropped my friends lifeless body into the crypt I glanced to Dan. His eyes were squinting and he was moving back and forth.

"Hey, you gonna be sick?" I asked rushing over to him for support.

"I don't know." he answered as I moved him away from the bloody sight.

"Wait here. It's going to be alright." I said as I left him and went to Joe's arm. I picked it up and quickly rushed to the crypt and dropped it in. Danny watched as the droplets of red fell along the floor. He quickly turned away gasping as he started to vomit. I turned away from him and shut my eyes, wishing that this was just a nightmare. I then reached for the crypt door, lifting and dropping it shut. I then walked over to Danny and again placed my hand on his back. He wiped his mouth and looked up at me.

"Get a hold of yourself," I said, "and try not to look suspicious."

Danny nodded and we started up the stairs.

Heading up we noticed John and the girls on they're way down.

"There you guys are." John said. "For a minute there I thought we lost you too."

"He's not down there." I said walking up passing John and the girls. "Did you find him?"

John looked down sadly saying "No."

Danny got to the top of the stairs and looked to Jackie. "I'm sorry." he said sniffling.

Jackie walked away and headed to the car.

"Maybe he did start down the road." Judy said. "Maybe we should try and look for him."

I just stood there and said nothing. No one did. I noticed Jackie. She looked extremely worried and stood by the car shivering.

"Come on Jackie," I said, "I'll get you a blanket."

I walked to the car passing her. I pulled the keys out of my pocket, laid the flashlight on the top of the car, unlocked the trunk and opened it.

Suddenly something dropped onto my back. Only it didn't drop, it jumped. It wrapped it's arms around my neck as I fell to the ground dropping the keys. It then let go of my back and climbed over me onto my chest. I heard Jackie scream as I tried to see what it was. But I couldn't, it was too dark. It had a hideous animal like growl. I felt it's hairy claws dig at my throat as I tried to struggle free. I looked once more and saw two small red eyes glowing, staring at me as I felt my neck start to rip. Danny and John ran over and shined they're flashlights on it.

        "What the fuck!" John cried.

I then saw it as the light hit the things face. A large hairy wolf like creature with large thin ears and a pug like nose. It's eyes gleamed red in the darkness. It's two large fangs dripped blood from it's mouth. The once gleaming red eyes turned white as soon as the glare of the light struck it's face. The creature let go of me and covered it's eyes from the light. It let out a screaming howl, then quickly ran off into the darkness. Danny tried to follow it with the flashlight with a shocked look on his face. John ran to help me up and we ran back to the house.

Once inside John told Danny to block the doorway with the refrigerator. I held my blood stained neck and watched as they struggled with the large object.

We were trapped. Trapped in an old house with numerous ways for that thing to get in at us. I was saved, for the moment by the brightness of our flashlights. But they won't last to long because I knew they carried old batteries. I thought of us running back to the car but we had no keys. They were somewhere lost among the dried leaves.

We were trapped in this old farmhouse, as this creature was trapped not long ago.

"Hey man, are you alright?" John asked as he rushed over to me.

"I think so." I answered nodding.

"What the fuck was that thing?" John asked as he started to rip a sleeve off his shirt. He then started to wrap it around my wounded neck.

Danny sat down and leaned back on the refrigerator. "The cellar?"

I nodded and turned away. "Oh God."

"What are you guys talking about?" Judy asked.

"That thing out there," I said, "It came from the cellar. There's something like a small cell down there in the floor. Somebody must have opened it and let that thing free."

Jackie's eyes widened and she rushed to the door. "Joe. we've got to find Joe! We've got to save him!"

Danny got up and held her back. "Jackie wait."

"Yeah, you can't go out there." I added.

"I've got to go!" she said starting to cry. "I've got to find Joe."

John grabbed her by the shoulders and held her. "Come on now damn it." He said. "You can't go out there."

Jackie looked at John with tears in her eyes. Then she hugged him and started to cry. John looked at me as if to ask about Joe. I shook my head slowly and lowered my head closing my eyes.

"What are we going to do?" Judy asked. "We just can't sit here and do nothing."

"We got to think of a way to get out of here." Danny said as he looked around the room with his flashlight.

I looked at the beam of light move around the room and said, "We're going to have to make it fast too. These lights aren't going to help us for long. Turn them all off for now."

We sat in the darkness as Jackie continued to cry.

"How bout if we try for the car?" John asked.

"We can't, I don't have the keys. They're out there somewhere in those leaves."

"Come on man," Danny said, "we can try. Anything is better than waiting here."

"Alright, your right about that." I said." But look, we've got to be real careful."

"That thing took off when I shined the light on it." John added. "If we huddle together and keep them ready, we might be able to make it."

"But I can't drive like this." I said.

"I'll drive." Danny said. "When we get out there I'll look for the keys and you guys keep watch. Then we're out of here."

Everything was quiet outside except for a few leaves hitting the ground. The sky was cloudless and the moon seemed to lighten the land.

We moved the refrigerator away from the doorway quietly and switched the flashlights on. Danny led about three feet ahead of us as we were back to back with the lights shinning out around us. There was no sight of that thing anywhere. We got to the car and waited while Danny got down and searched the fallen leaves for the keys. The wind howled as it blew more leaves from the tree.

"Found them." Danny said and started to the driver side.

He got in and reached over to unlock the passenger side when suddenly the creature jumped from out of nowhere and pulled John down. The girls backed away and screamed. Danny tried to yell to them to get into the car but they just stood frozen, watching John being mauled by the creature. I limped over to the beast and raised my flashlight. With all my strength I brought it down onto the things head. It shattered completely in my hand and didn't seem to bother the beast from it's attack. It continued to rip at John who was now screaming with less intensity. The girls in shock ran back to the house. Danny got out of the car and got a crowbar from the trunk. He ran over to the beast and with a loud thump cracked the metal rod over the creatures back. Then another swing at it's head. It did no good. The beast just looked back to Danny and then went back to John. John's struggling body sudden grew limp and the his screaming had stopped.

"Get back to the house." I yelled as I limped to it. Danny helped me along.

The creature paid no attention. It was too involved with it's helpless prey.

What we watched from the house was a horrific sight. Silhouetted against the bluish moonlit sky was the beast feasting upon John. Slurping and drooling sounds came from the sight by the roadside. Terror gripped our minds as we thought that we would never escape from here. That thing was going to get us sooner or later and there was nothing we could do to stop it. The only thing we could think of to try to trap it again or kill it, which seemed impossible because of it's incredible strength. Once it gets hungry again it will come looking for more food. We have to work fast. Think of something.

Judy put her arms around Jackie who looked in shock. "God, why did we have to come out here. I want to go home."

She started to cry and Danny moved to them and held them.

        Then something came to me.

"Wait a minute. That things seems to be afraid of light, right? What about fire?

"Oh yeah right," Jackie threw in sarcastically. "Let's set the house on fire and fry us alive. That's real good."

"Come on Jackie." I said. "Think positively. Not the house, but this shit in it. That old chair for instance."

Danny looked to me. "Yeah, I see. We'll make some kind of bon fire so we can get to the car."

"Look," I said, "we got no other choice. You girls collect the curtains, we'll need a lot of cloth and wood. Those old rags on the floor too. Danny, you come with me and help me get the wood. Be quiet and hurry. Let's go."

Judy started collecting the rags and old newspapers while Jackie pulled the curtains down. John and I started to pull apart the old tables and parts of the walls and floors. We brought everything and piled it all just outside the doorway. I pulled out my lighter and flicked it on creating a small bluish yellow flame which set off an aura of heat. Our faces watched in desperation as I held up and old newspaper which had a moldy stench to it. It caught fire quickly without any delay. I tossed it into the pile of garbage that we collected. It fell emitting tiny specks of ashes lit in red with the effect of a sparkler on the forth. We continued to place more flammable papers onto the flame. The curtains and rags burnt quickly and dissolved into tiny flying specks.

"This stuff is burning too quick." I said. "Were going to need more."

The two girls took off quickly. Jackie went upstairs to collect more curtains. Judy returned with more paper and rags.

        Danny looked around. "Where's Jackie?"

"She went upstairs to get more curtains." she answered dropping the things onto the floor.

"Damn it. You shouldn't have left her alone."

Upstairs Jackie had just pulled down the last set of curtains and turned away from the window. A loud crash of breaking glass shattered and hit the floor as the creature lunged through the window onto Jackie as they fell to the floor.

I turned my head to Judy and Dan in shock. We got up and we ran for the stairs, Danny leading. As we reached the bottom landing we were met by the torn body of Jackie that was flung down the stairs. We looked up to the top. The creature stood there, eyes glowing red, snorting and growling   hideously.

"You son of a bitch!" Danny yelled as he ran up the stairs. I grabbed for him telling him 'no' but he pushed me away and continued up.

The beast met him at the top, grabbed him by the shoulders, and threw him across the room. Gaining his footing he moved to the creature and threw a punch at it's bloody face. Blocking the oncoming swing, the beast sliced Danny across the face with his claws sending him back across the room again. With his face loosing blood he tried to back away from the oncoming horror. It lunged at him and wrapped it's strong arms around Danny in a bear hug. It's claws ripped at his back. With the rest of the strength he had, Danny managed to move them towards the broken window. Gaining some footing, he pushed himself out of the window with the beast still wrapped around him. As he fell I heard him yell 'Fuck you!'.

I ran back down to Judy. "Now's our chance. Come on."

"Wait!" she screamed through tears, "We've got to help Jackie and Dan."

I stopped and pulled her to me. "It's too late! They're dead! Now come on while we got this chance!"

The bonfire was now a small smoldering flame. We ran past it and hurried to the car as I clutched Judy's hand firmly. When we reached the car I cursed.

        "Fuck!"

        "What? Come on!"

        "Danny's got the keys!"

Out of nowhere the creature jumped out and grabbed me. We both hit the ground and the beast rolled off of me.

"Get in the car! Save yourself!" I yelled.

Judy stood frozen in horror. Helplessly watching as the wolf creature throw me around. I felt a cold stinging on my back and shoulders and realized they were sliced open by the things claws. Blood gushed from the open wounds. I am going to die. The beast picked me up once more and threw me again across the leaf covered lawn. But this time I was close to the fire. That was it. I was not afraid anymore. I looked to the smoldering pile of garbage and reached. I found my hand touching a long piece of wood which led to the center of the small flame. I pulled it out and saw a rag was tangled around it. It was burning. I looked back and saw the beast almost on top of me. I raised the burning torch and shoved it into the beasts face. A tremendous yell came from it as it covered it's face with it's claws. It backed up away from me. I got myself up and moved towards the wounded thing moving the burning torch to the things legs and the dry leaves below it. It caught fire instantly. The horrified beast now moved around quickly trying to stop it's fiery demise. It cried out horrified. The area soon grew into a fiery show illuminating everything with a yellow orange strobe effect.

I moved to Judy and held her as we watched the beast howl and wail. It moved itself past us and fell onto the gravel road in a fiery heap as we watched it's life movement die to a few life ending convolutions.

The beast of Plainfield farm is no more. It is now a legend.
